French Art Deco pearl and faux tortoisehell necklace

The charm and elegance of this French Art Deco necklace, dating from the the 1930s or 1940s, cannot be overstated.

The main glass beads are textured and shaped in a mixture of amber and black designed to mimic the tortoiseshell that was so popular during that era. These beads are offset by amber coloured rondels and brass spacers. The other main feature of this necklace are the two strands of large glass faux pearls in a toning alabaster cream colour with a lustrous soft sheen.

Although unsigned, the design and quality of the elements in this necklace indicate that it was almost certainly produced by one of the great designers of the era. It has been recently restrung and hand knotted on beige silk, measures 42 cm long, and fastens with a striped barrel screw clasp so often seen on French vintage designer jewellery.
