1950s ‘Jewels of India’ rhinestone bracelet

This wonderful bracelet is a lovely example of the bold post war jewellery designs by Barclay Jewelry of Rhode Island.  It is made of five large and beautifully detailed rectangular rhodium plated links set with a combination of octagon, navette, pear and round sparkling rhinestones, all faceted and claw set. Each of these links measures 2.5 cm x 2 cm. The bracelet fastens with a matching jewel encrusted box clasp which carries the Barclay signature. It has its original safety chain and is in good condition, with only minor wear to the rhodium plating. It measures 19 cm x is 2 cm.

The Barclay Jewelry Co first produced signed jewellery in 1948 and ceased operation in 1957, so their high quality pieces were only sold for 9 years, mainly through large department and jewellery stores. This bracelet is from their 1950s “Jewels of India” collection which was advertised as “From the land of mystery and romance”. It was also produced in a variety of sumptuous colours with co-ordinating earrings, brooches and necklaces.
