Edwardian banded agate cufflinks

These cufflinks feature a polished banded agate stone in black with hints of dark chocolate brown and a white band. The stones are connected to an unmarked silver bar retainer via a five-link chain and measure approximately 17 mm x 13 mm; the bar is 20 mm long. They date from the early 1900s and are in lovely vintage condition.

A matching set of six waistcoat buttons is available here.

“Pebble jewellery” became fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries when stones, including banded agate, were collected from beaches and fields in Scotland. Banded agates are still valued today for their beautiful, natural patterns and are purported to be a calming stone, harmonizing the chaotic mind and bringing tranquility to the spirit.
