Edwardian banded agate waistcoat buttons
This is a versatile and eye-catching set of six early 1900s waistcoat buttons. The round buttons are made of polished banded agate stones in black with hints of dark chocolate brown and a white band. They have a metal shank and are secured in place with the split rings which attach behind the garment’s button holes. Each button measures 11 mm across.
These buttons are presented in an original green leather case decorated with gold detail and with a push clasp closure. The lid is lined with cream satin whilst the buttons and rings sit in a padded velvet cushion. The case measures 78 mm across.
A matching set of cufflinks is available here.
Although originally used as waistcoat or dress buttons, this set is equally relevant today as studs for a formal evening shirt or maybe as decorative buttons for a casual shirt, jacket or blouse.
“Pebble jewellery” became fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries when stones, including banded agate, were collected from beaches and fields in Scotland. Banded agates are still valued today for their beautiful, natural patterns and are purported to be a calming stone, harmonizing the chaotic mind and bringing tranquility to the spirit.Â
