Edwardian rose gold buttons and cufflinks set

This is a stunning and hard-to-find set of cufflinks and waistcoat buttons dating from the early 1900s Edwardian era, presented in the original case and carefully restored in our own studio.

The buttons feature a carved Mother of Pearl round in an ornate rose gold gilt claw setting. The cufflinks mirror the buttons and connect to rose gold gilt torpedo retainers decorated with a flowing, foliate design. In the centre of each piece is a crystal, but several of these had been lost so we have re-set them with never-used faux sapphire crystals from the same era.

The buttons have a shank that goes through the garment’s button hole and is secured in place from behind by the split ring. Each button measures 14 mm across and the torpedo retainers are 22 mm long.

The original green leather case is decorated with gold detail and has a push clasp closure. The lid is lined with deep cream satin whilst the buttons, cufflinks and split pins sit in a padded velvet cushion. The case measures 120 mm across.

This stunning set is quite unique. It is unusual to find cufflinks and six buttons in one set, whilst the decorative rose gold mounts are highly distinctive. Antique waistcoat buttons like these are desirable today as studs for a formal evening shirt as well as buttons.
