La Maison Murat was founded in Paris by Charles Murat in the mid 1800s and became one of the largest employers in the French jewellery trade. Murat patented a technique known as ‘doublé or’ where high content gold was applied to fine quality jewellery and artefacts at less cost, so appealing to a wider market. La Maison Murat passed through several generations before becoming Murat & Cie in the early 20th Century. The company’s reputation for  high quality ensured an  enthusiastic following which endures to this day.
