Pink Art Deco glass bead necklace by Louis Rousselet

This is one of those necklaces that lifts your mood as soon as you fasten it! Playful and feminine, it is distinctively Art Deco in style, dates from the 1920s or 1930s and is attributed to Louis Rousselet.

It features graduated beads of luminous cranberry red glass accented by engraved and textured silver coloured metal beads and jet black rondels that accentuate the Art Deco styling. Rousselet was one of the outstanding beadmakers of the early 20th Century and these handmade polished lampwork beads demonstrate the exceptional quality of his work.

The necklace is strung on a chain and fastens with a signature Rousselet beehive barrel clasp stamped “Made in France”. It measures 43 cm long.

Louis Rousselet was a French beadmaker and jewellery designer who founded the Rousselet Company in Paris in the 1920s. He became one of the outstanding beadmakers of the twentieth century, employing around 800 people producing handmade, polished lampwork beads, often with baroque shapes to emphasize their individuality and always of exceptional quality. 

From 1920 to the early 1970s Louis Rousselet was one of France’s most revered jewellers. His designs were showcased by stars of the Folies Bergere and Moulin Rouge as well as leading fashion houses including Coco Chanel, Jacques Fath and Pierre Balmain.
