Victorian ‘sweetheart’ brooch with rhinestones and pearls

This charming and unusual little Victorian ‘sweetheart’ brooch is decorated with claw set rhinestones and tiny palest grey faux seed pearls set into a delicate antiqued brass frame. It has a simple c clasp and measures 2.5 cm x 3 cm.

Heart shaped jewellery was immensely symbolic during the Victorian era of 1837 to 1900. The heart symbol signified not only romantic love but also the deeper, more platonic bonds between family members and friends. Whether exchanged between lovers or given as tokens of friendship, sweetheart brooches hold a unique place in the history of jewellery and in the hearts of collectors today.
