Art Deco silver cufflinks and studs set
Comprising a pair of square chainlink cufflinks and two shirt studs, this attractive Art Deco set dates from 1920s. The cufflinks have a decorative border with an etched pattern filled with mother of pearl, while the little screw fix collar studs mirror the design. They come in their original blue box with John Bull & Co printed on the cream silk lining inside the lid.
The cufflinks have a 5-link chain and are 11 mm square, the studs are 6 mm square. The cufflinks are stamped silver on the reverse and also 9CI which we believe is a silver assay makers mark.
In 1817 a butcher’s son, John Bull, established a small business as a jeweller and silversmith and opened his shop at 49 High Street, Bedford. It became the county jeweller, setting high standards of expertise and craftsmanship. One memorable commission was a diamond and platinum brooch presented to the Queen Mother by the Beds & Herts Regiment. The business closed in 2022 after more than 200 years in the town.
