Before WW1 the Austria-Hungarian empire had been home to some of the world’s most beautiful and mesmerising jewellery with an overtly gothic influence. In 1910 Swarovski built their own pioneering glassworks factory in Austria and the country soon became the centre for glassmaking at a time when crystals for jewellery and embellishments became increasingly fashionable. Vintage Austrian glass jewellery is treasured today for its fabulously bold and colourful designs.
