Trifari golden ‘Starburst’ bow brooch with topaz rhinestone

Trifari created a collection of contemporary “Starburst” design brooches in the 1960s to celebrate the space age. This Starburst Bow featured in their playful 1965 Christmas Collection advertisements that appeared in glossy magazines.

Ribbons of polished and florentine golden metal form a spray of bows that is interspersed with starburst ‘rays’. At the centre is an imposing square cut topaz coloured rhinestone measuring 14 mm across.

The brooch measures 6 cm x 5 cm and has a rollover clasp. It is stamped on the reverse with Trifari with a copyright symbol which was used by the company from 1955 to 1969.
