1920s goldtone floral heart brooch by Coro
Coro jewellery from the early 20th Century is hard to find now and this heavy brass alloy brooch is an imposing example of the brand’s distinctive style and design.
The antiqued goldtone base is formed into a heart shape decorated with tiny flowers accented with baroque pearls, little round pearls or claw set rhinestones in pink, blue and topaz. Two dainty flowers with white enamel petals and green rhinestone centres complete the coursage.
The brooch has a rollover clasp and measures 5 cm x 4.5 cm. It is signed Coro on the reverse with Coro’s script front signature, which dates it around 1919.
Emanuel Cohn and Carl Rosenberger founded Coro in 1901 in New York. They established a factory in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1911 and incorporated Coro jewellery, the enterprise in 1913. Coro jewellery continued to be produced until the 1970s, in many countries and under different brand names such as Corocraft and Jewelcraft.
