Exceptional 1958 Christian Dior green crystal drop earrings

Here is an increasingly rare opportunity to own a spectacular pair of original 1958 Christian Dior earrings in wonderful condition and with all the grace, luxury and impeccable styling of the House of Dior.

The dramatic Dior Green Tourmaline crystals were created to perfectly mimic the rare tourmaline gemstone and are arranged into a alluring double drop with a pear-shaped cluster crystal in the centre. The two larger green crystals at the top and bottom are surrounded by glittering Aurora Borealis crystals with hues of green, gold and turquoise. All the crystals have been claw set by hand into a shiny rhodium plated silvertone setting.

The quality and attention to detail in these earrings is superb and everything you would expect from the House of Dior in the 1950s. They are documented as being designed and made for Dior by Henkel & Grosse of Pforzheim, acclaimed makers of fine jewellery, under an unprecedented partnership with the House of Dior that still exists today.

These are clip-on earrings, with Christian Dior 1958 stamped on the underside of the clip. They measure 55 mm overall, and the bottom part of the drop is approximately 25 mm x 18 mm.

‘Aurora Borealis’ crystals were first created in 1956 by Swarovski in the Austrian Tyrol and named after the changing colours of the ‘Northern Lights’. Daniel Swarovski, the founder’s grandson, applied an iridescent coating to crystal rhinestones that produced the glittering rainbow effect. Christian Dior was captivated by the crystals and, working with Swarovski, launched them into the fashion spotlight in his luxurious jewellery in the late 1950s.
